My thoughts on Palm Vs. Apple

First to recap on what has happened since the release of the Palm Pre. The Palm Pre was first released having “support” with iTunes, meaning you could sync your music to your Pre using iTunes. Of course when Apple found out they did not like this so they upgrading iTunes and reported to fix a “bug”. Now Palm has update the Pre to “sync” with iTunes but by spoofing the usb id to the same as an iPod made by Apple. Palm said this in a blog post…

Oh, and one more thing: Palm webOS 1.1 re-enables Palm media sync. That’s right — you once again can have seamless access to your music, photos and videos from the current version of iTunes (8.2.1).

Since Palm has gone this route Apple can easily issue an “update” to it’s iPod “accidentally” bricking the Palm Pre since it’s not an iPod. Apple most likely will not do this, but it could happen. I don’t like what Palm has done and the method they’ve chosen to do this. Apple has every right to only allow a specific group of devices to sync with iTunes it’s their app. Microsoft done the same thing with their Zune software, plus the Zune software only works on Windows. Palm is also looking at Blackberry they are doing the same thing they did in the beginning to sync their devices with iTunes. I think Palm should just develop their own application and be done with it, It’s not even a big feature of the phone.
